Pioneer Scholarships (Year 5, 2026)
Become a part of history with the Pioneer Scholarship, created to celebrate Newington College’s transition to co-education and support girls and boys who are ready to lead, innovate, and inspire. This scholarship is available to existing and prospective students (both boys and girls) currently in Year 4 (entering Year 5 in 2026). This prestigious opportunity is designed for students with a balanced range of achievements who will benefit from the outstanding opportunities at Newington College while enriching our vibrant school community.
Applicants should demonstrate strong academic aptitude, exceptional character, and leadership potential. The ideal candidate may also exhibit additional strengths in areas such as sport, community service, leadership, dance, drama, music, visual arts, or languages.
We are looking for students who are committed to:

The Pioneer Scholarship covers partial tuition fees. Please note that additional costs including the registration and acceptance fee, uniforms, camps, resource levy, and music tuition are not covered by the Pioneer Scholarship.
The scholarship is for a period of 4 years, until the end of Year 8, 2029, subject to ongoing review and enrolment.
Scholarships will be awarded at the College’s absolute discretion and be based on applications and, if shortlisted, the applicant’s performance in an interview. There will be no academic examination.

The evenings will facilitated by admissions staff and our Director of Co-education Ms Brigid Taylor.

Timeline
- Applications Open: Thursday 20 February 2025
- Applications Close: 5.00pm on Friday 2 May 2025
Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a senior member of the academic staff in May 2025. A non-refundable scholarship administration fee of $50 is payable at the time of application. Applications will not be accepted or considered if the scholarship administration fee is not paid.

How to Apply
Both current students and new prospective students entering Year 5 in 2026 may apply.
Complete your online registration by 5pm on Friday 2 May 2025 and ensure you upload the following documents:
Please submit the following:
- Online Application: Include Year 3 NAPLAN results and the two most recent Academic School Reports.
- A current passport-sized photograph of the student.
- Copies of certificates or other proof of your child’s academic, sporting, or other achievements.
- Copies of certificates or evidence of your child’s talent in design, technology, computing, drama, and/or music (AMEB or equivalent grade certificates).
- Supporting Statement: The student applying should write an A4 page response to the key areas of commitment of the Pioneer Scholarship outlined below, with no more than 100 words per criterion. The student should outline how they demonstrate these areas and give examples.

Co-Curricular Engagement – A willingness to explore talents beyond the classroom.
Community in Partnership – A desire to contribute and build meaningful connections.
There is no academic examination for this scholarship.
- Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship panel, and only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
- Written references or referee contact details are not required.
Late scholarship applications received after 5pm on Friday 2 May 2025 will not be accepted.
The College reserves its rights to withdraw the opportunity for this scholarship to be awarded.

Senior Scholarships
Newington College provides a range of Senior scholarship options to students with potential in general and specific areas.
In turn, we are looking for scholarship applicants who have:
- strong academic ability or potential, with good reports that reflect effort and solid references from their school
- sound character traits and a potential to lead
- a willingness to participate in a variety of educational and school-related activities
- evidence that they enjoy active participation and achievement in co-curricular programs such as sport, visual and performing arts, debating or service learning projects (community service).

All students applying for a Newington College Scholarship must sit the scholarship test. The test is administered by Academic Assessment Services.
