Inter-School Events
We are committed to building staff capacity in Critical Thinking pedagogies as well as offering rigorous opportunities for students to engage with big ideas in collaborative inquiry. We have partnered with the Association for Philosophy in Schools NSW to host sessions of the internationally recognised professional learning course ‘Introduction to Philosophical Community of Inquiry’.
For more about the professional opportunities we offer, see here.
Our suite of inter-school critical thinking events provides further mentorship to teachers in facilitating collaborative inquiry. These events are incursions for Newington students and excursions for students from around our state. The events offer teams of students from a diverse range of schools the opportunity to take a seat in in our Critical Thinking Quarters to engage in a collaborative day of philosophical challenges. Each thematic day is designed by our expert practitioners, and each centres around a big idea or concept such as ‘Character’, ‘Doing Good’ or ‘Identity and Change.’
Meeting of Minds is on offer for Stage 4 students, Socratic Summit is open to Stage 5 students, and the Sydney Philosothon runs annually each year. Pre-requisite to attending any of these events is to ensure each team brings a teacher who has been through the ‘Introduction to Philosophical Community of Inquiry’ course that is run each year.
