2025 HSC Results
The HSC Class of 2025 has achieved outstanding results which we are delighted to share with our community.
This cohort has been determined to succeed throughout Year 11 and 12. They worked hard across a range of challenging subjects with 68 per cent of all student results placed in the top two Bands, 5 and 6 (up from 59 per cent in 2024).
They also committed themselves to rigorous Extension subjects, with more than 60 per cent of students engaging in at least one Extension subject. This hard work certainly paid off with 90 per cent of all Extension results placed in the top two performance bands, E3 and E4 (up from 86 per cent in 2024).
The HSC Class of 2025 upheld the values of rigour, curiosity and creativity, embracing challenges and pursuing diverse interests and passions, resulting in a record number of HSC Showcase nominations.
We are proud of each and every one of them and we are delighted to share the highlights below.
Dr Amy Van Arkkels – Deputy, Academic (K-12)

From the 2025 HSC Dux
Sebastian Wong
‘My biggest hurdle during Year 12 was staying motivated and not burning out, which I overcame by having a good study plan, exercising frequently, and having a great mentor in Mr Rivera.
I believe my greatest academic success at Newington was achieving full marks in the Maths Extension 1 trial HSC exam. A result made possible thanks to the support of my Maths teacher, Mrs Kennedy.
Looking ahead, I plan to pursue my passion for Mathematics at University, and hope to have the opportunity to spend part of my studies overseas in the future.
Beyond academics, music has played a big role in my time at Newington. I played piano in the band ‘The Striped Ties’ from Year 7 to Year 12 and my favourite memory is performing at Rockfest this year. It was a unique and once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget.
I’ve always felt that music and mathematics share a common thread in pattern recognition during the early stages, however as you progress in both fields, they diverge greatly.’
