Lindfield International Market creates community hub
Sample some multicultural culinary delights and snap up some raffle prizes or second-hand bargains at Lindfield’s upcoming biannual International Market.
One of the social highlights on the College’s calendar, the International Market held at our Lindfield campus this year on 13 November brings community together in a wonderful evening of food, performance and flavour. Students are encouraged to exercise their entrepreneurial spirit by hosting a variety of market stalls, with internationally themed food and entertainment on offer for attendees.
‘It’s a very fun way for our community to come together in celebration of our diversity, strong sense of engagement and belonging,’ says Mr Pascal Czerwenka, Associate Principal of Lindfield Prep K–6.

Originally created around the themes and values of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), the inaugural International Marketplace was first organised in November 2018 by the Lindfield Parents and Friends Association (P&F). As part of the events of the day, parents and the wider community participated in an end-of-year celebration. The School Band performed a flash mob followed by a selection of carols, and the School Choir dressed up in cooking aprons to serenade audiences with songs about food.
Eight years on, the event is going from strength to strength. This year, attractions include a cake stall; second-hand store offering pre-loved toys and games, knick-knacks, homewares, kitchen items and utensils, books, puzzles and other treasures; raffle prizes including vouchers to restaurants, venues and events, as well as prize packs, games, books and experiences; and even a ‘flag guessing’ competition with some Lego prizes on offer for the best guessers.
The entire event is in aid of promoting service learning and fundraising for Kiva, an international non-profit organisation that expands financial access for underserved communities around the world.
‘At our 2024 International Marketplace we raised more than $7,000 for Kiva, which was a fantastic result,’ says Mr Czerwenka.

‘Our students were then able to make use of these funds last year to assist with loans for people in developing countries. We look forward to engaging our students again in such a meaningful and rewarding task.’
As the event is cash-free, Year 1 Lindfield students have designed a specialised ‘market currency’ to replace legitimate money on the evening, for all student-led stalls.
‘This provides our students with an opportunity to use currency and learn about handling transactions while ensuring the safety of all our staff and students,’ says Mr Czerwenka.
Prepaid currency will be available upon arrival and additional currency will also be available to purchase on the night. To prepurchase currency for the International Market, click here.
‘We are all very excited about this event – students, staff and families have been working hard behind the scenes to transform our school into a vibrant marketplace.
‘We thank them all for their efforts and look forward to a wonderful evening,’ says Mr Czerwenka.
