Three Newington students selected to Australian U18 Rugby Team
It’s been a huge year of rugby at Newington with three players selected to the Australian U18 team today, writes Mr Mark Dickens, Head of Sport.
Continuing the time-honoured traditions of rugby at Newington, the College is proud to congratulate, Isaiah S (Captain of Rugby 2026), Harry W and Iliyaz V on their selection to the Australian U18 Rugby team, an outstanding achievement and recognition of their dedication and perseverance.
All three students were key members of Newington’s 2025 1st XV and also played significant roles in this year’s 2026 AAGPS Joint Premiership winning side. Their selection reflects not only their individual ability, but also the commitment they have shown to their development over a number of years.

For Harry and Isaiah, the honour comes in a year where they have also balanced the responsibilities of serving in House leadership positions at Newington, demonstrating the strong character, leadership and service that sit alongside their achievements on the rugby field.

The selection is particularly meaningful for Isaiah and Iliyaz, both of whom have overcome significant injuries in recent times. Their determination, resilience and commitment to their rehabilitation have been exemplary, making their return to representative rugby all the more impressive.
Head Coach Tim Rapp says today’s selections to the Australian team are a fitting reward for all three students.
‘Harry, Isaiah and Iliyaz have each contributed enormously to Newington Rugby during their time at the College,’ says Mr Rapp.
‘Their selection in the Australian U18 team is recognition of their hard work, resilience and commitment, and we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved. They have represented the College with distinction and are deserving ambassadors for both Newington and Australian schoolboy rugby.’
The College congratulates Harry, Isaiah and Iliyaz on this outstanding achievement and wishes them every success as they represent Australia on the national stage.
