What happened this week

New Zealand tour recap

Over the school holidays, 45 students and five staff from our Prep School campuses travelled to New Zealand. The tour started in Christchurch and travelled south to Queenstown. They played two fixtures against New Zealand school sides and experienced a training session with professional clubs and teams.

The students developed independent skills, as for many it was their first international trip on their own. They were immersed in the New Zealand culture and had an opportunity to learn the ‘Hakka’, how to paddle a Wakka and build friendships with their New Zealand peers.

We would like to give a massive thank you to Lindfield staff Hugh Brown and William Neville for giving up a week of their school holidays and for taking the students on a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Smart watches and mobile phones

Students are not permitted to wear smartwatches to school. If your child has a phone, they must leave it in their bags or with their teacher during school hours. If you need to get a message to your child during the day, please email the class teacher, copying in the lindfield@newington.nsw.edu.au address. Alternatively, you can phone the school office on 9416 4280 and speak to one of our lovely administrative staff.

Student ID cards

Students MUST use their Student ID Card to make incidental purchases at the canteen or to ride the school bus. If a student doesn’t have any food for recess or lunch, we ask that they come to the front office for assistance. If your child has lost his card, a replacement card can be requested here.

Welcome back

We are delighted to welcome back all our students and families. We would like to make a particular welcome to Maxwell Khanpour and his family, Nima and Nicole. They returned to Newington College this term in Year 2.

Sport

We are looking forward to commencing our Term 4 Swimming lessons, which will commence in Week 3 and run until Week 7. Please see this New Spaces article for full details.

The IPSHA Saturday Sport commences this Saturday, and all final fixtures and locations will be published on Thursday afternoon at 4.00pm.

Staff Profile

Q. What do you enjoy about teaching?

A. I truly appreciate the opportunity to support and collaborate with a wide variety of students, staff, parents and community members. Each group brings diverse perspectives and challenges, making my role dynamic and rewarding. The range in my daily interactions not only keeps my work interesting but also reinforces the importance of community and teamwork in achieving our common goals, which is what I enjoy about working in a school.

Also, through my role, I am in a unique and rewarding position where I can support students both in and outside of school. Working with them and teaching them new skills and perspectives can help them in various aspects of life. This allows me to have a bit of fun and creates an environment where they feel comfortable and relaxed.

Q. What is something people don’t know about you?

A. I have a background in teaching. I gained my teaching degree and worked in various educational environments before moving to support people with their mental wellbeing.

Q. What is one of your best memories of being a student?

A. Some of my best memories from school come from playing Saturday sports. I loved getting out there most weekends and running around, competing against other schools. The thrill of the game, the camaraderie with my teammates and the excitement of facing different opponents each week made those Saturdays truly special. It wasn’t just about the competition; it was also about the joy of being active, the sense of achievement when we (rarely) won and even the lessons learned from our losses. These experiences not only kept me physically fit but also taught me valuable life skills such as teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship.
