Newington College Scores Big with Appointment of Mr Ben Herring as Director of Rugby
We are excited to announce the appointment of Mr Ben Herring as our Director of Rugby. He’ll lead our inspiring and inclusive rugby program across the whole College, from Wyvern and Lindfield Prep through to the Senior School.
Mr Herring was previously the Head Coach of the New Zealand Otago team, and most recently the Head Coach of the Japanese rugby union team Toyota Verblitz. During a diverse coaching career, Mr Herring has also coached with two national sides, Canada and Japan, across the 15s and 7s program for both men and women.
Additionally, Mr Herring played rugby professionally from 2001 to 2009 in both New Zealand and England. He began his professional career with the Southland Stags, before transferring to the Hurricanes in 2004 and the European team Leicester Tigers in 2007.
Mr Herring’s vast experience as both a player and coach on the world stage is evident. His knowledge and skill, alongside his belief that each player has a unique journey within the game, underpin the approach he will bring to coaching at Newington and the role that rugby can play in creating a nurturing environment where student wellbeing and development can thrive.
We are confident that Mr Herring’s expertise and experience will be a huge benefit to our students, the rugby program and the whole College, and we look forward to Mr Herring commencing at Newington at the start of Term 3.
Please join us in welcoming Mr Herring to Newington!
