Pioneer
Ignite your child’s education journey with a scholarship that recognises early promise, nurtures leadership, and celebrates character. Pioneer Scholarships open doors for exceptional young learners ready to grow, lead, thrive, and make a meaningful impact from the very start.
About
Pioneer Scholarships are awarded to girls and boys who have demonstrated strong academic aptitude, exceptional character, and leadership potential in the early years of schooling, and are eager to make a lasting impact.
To be eligible for a Pioneer Scholarship at Newington, applicants may be girls or boys entering Year 5. Current and new students may apply for Pioneer Scholarships.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa.
Student selection is based on demonstrable strong academic merit, exceptional character, and leadership potential. Students may also exhibit additional strengths in areas such as sport, community service, leadership, dance, drama, music, visual arts, or languages.
Assessment will include a review of applications, and, if shortlisted, subsequent interviews.
Students will need to demonstrate a commitment to:
- excellence in learning – a passion for knowledge and personal growth
- wellbeing, character and service – a dedication to kindness, resilience, and making a difference
- co-curricular engagement – a willingness to explore talents beyond the classroom
- community in partnership – a desire to contribute and build meaningful connections.
Students applying for this opportunity must demonstrate excellence through a range of supporting documentation. This includes:
- recent school reports showcasing academic performance
- awards or certificates from external competitions
- NAPLAN results as evidence of academic aptitude; and
- if required, any other documentation requested by the College.
Successful candidates will need to demonstrate a willingness to participate in the wide range of opportunities available at Newington, respecting our values and heritage, and contributing in a way that benefits the College.
Pioneer Scholarships cover partial remission of academic tuition fees from Year 5 through to, and including, Year 8.
