Newington Brochure

This booklet offers a glimpse into a school where students discover what is possible.

We want them to try widely, find what motivates them, uncover their passions and have fun along the way. Most importantly, we want every family to feel proud of the person their child becomes.

Critical Thinking at Newington

Newington College’s Centre for Critical Thinking and Ethics (CCTE) empowers students to develop great hearts, inspired minds and strong wings, preparing them to contribute positively to society. Grounded in the Philosophy in Schools / Philosophy for Children (P4C) tradition, the program teaches students to listen, reason and think independently by questioning and investigating claims to knowledge.

With the establishment of our Critical Thinking and Ethics Quarters in 2022, our commitment to helping students question, explore and, when needed, shift their perspectives, became a defining element of a Newington education. The Centre now sits at the heart of our fearless liberal education approach.

Our bespoke K–12 critical thinking program is delivered by experts through a progressive, spiralled sequence of lessons. Working with subject specialists, we continually refine our pedagogy to ensure students think with open minds and clear eyes. Challenging assumptions with rational, considered argument is not only welcomed — it’s encouraged.
