Paris or Sirap? The Olympic flag this year would say it isn’t Paris but rather Sirap as the flag was hung upside-down.
In a unique departure from tradition, the Olympic parade didn’t take place around the usual oval track. Instead, participants and officials travelled along the Seine River in boats, with Greece leading the procession.
Tonga, aboard a boat with a few other countries, had six enthusiastic participants who were thrilled to be part of the Games. Later, Australia made a splash with their own large boat, featuring athletes from various sports such as soccer and the 100-meter sprint. Along the sides of the river and on a smaller boat there were performances by celebrities like Lady Gaga and Céline Dion.
Australia is already off to a great start with two gold medals in swimming and additional silver and bronze medals in other events. It will be exciting to see how many more gold medals Australia will secure. Go AUS!
