Disney announces the production of three new Star Wars films
Star Wars fans should be excited. On April 7, Disney announced the release of three new Star Wars films at the Star Wars celebration 2023, in London. However, unlike the previous films, they are not a trilogy. These films are placed between, way before, and after the other nine, similarly to Rogue One.
The first film announced is to be directed by James Mangold, director of the soon to be released Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, The Wolverine and more. The film is to be set thousands of years before any of the other films, exploring the discovery of the force. This film will follow the creation of the Jedi, how they learnt to wield the force and where the force came from in the first place.

This new ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ movie will help answer previously unanswered questions about the mysterious power of the force, show the thoughts of the very first Jedi and show the setting of the scene for the main series.
The next film is to be directed by Dave Filoni, the creator of one of the most popular Disney spin-off series, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and a new series soon to be released called Ahsoka. Filoni’s movie is to be a connection to his three spin-offs, and is set between Episode VI, Return of the Jedi, and Episode VII, The Force Awakens. His film will tie off any loose ends joining the three spin-offs together, but not end them completely, as The Mandalorian season 4 has been recently announced. Coming together with his live action spin-offs, his animated series, including The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, this film will ultimately explore the gap of thirty years between Episodes VI and VII.
The last film announced at the Star Wars Celebration is set just 15 years after Episode IX, and will tell the story of Rey trying to rebuild the Jedi Order, while facing down threats that will not let the Jedi order continue. This film is to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who has directed some episodes of Ms. Marvel, Saving Face, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness and more.
This film has the potential to create a baseline for more spin-offs, or possibly, even more movies. As Rey raises the new Jedi Padawans, each of her students can create their own stories. They would all have a different future, so if Disney really wanted, they could create a spin-off for each of these characters.
My take on the announcement
In my opinion, the film with the most potential must be James Mangold’s movie, about the discovery of the force. This film can set the scene of everything else in the franchise, from Episodes I-IX to anything involving Jedi. We will now be able to understand how Jedi can wield the force, connect with each other, and sway the weak-minded’s brains
You should definitely get excited about these new films dropping. They will continue to build on the Star Wars franchise, and if done well, could give an interesting new perspective on the previous films and give a huge amount of insight into things that only used to be speculated.
