Newington’s first-ever VEX Robotics team advanced to the semi-finals at The King’s School on Sunday during their opening tournament of the season.
Fielding a mixed-senior squad comprising Year 10 students Marcus Pan, Erain Sun, and Frank Shi, alongside Year 12 student Sunny Zhang, the team designed and constructed an autonomous and driver-controlled machine to contest fast-paced head-to-head arena matches.
Competing against experienced squads from across Sydney, the Newington entry secured consecutive alliance victories in the qualifying heats to progress deep into the knockouts, bowing out in the semi-final round. The team will continue refining its chassis and motor gearing ahead of the next regional qualifier.
