The annual 2025 House Singing occurred on Friday the 12th of June with our sixteen houses singing a range of classic and amazing songs, competing for victory. This year’s House Singing Competition was a great time for both staff and students, and there were some unforgettable moments that need to be recapped.

Mackay started off the event with a lovely performance of Rich Girl by Daryl Hall and John Oates.

Bavin followed this with Brotherhood of Man from How to Succeed in Business which with some spectacular musical dynamics and a sneaky chat with the judges. This performance by Bavin was annoylingly good and demonstrated their musical talent. Directed by Henry Corona, the singing was on point and Henry’s aside to the judges turned some eyes and stole the show.

Gilligan picked up the energy with their entertaining performance of Cheap Thrills by Cia with the use of some Mighty Ducks props.

Morrison performed I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers with some fantastic choreography.

Moulton performed Working Class Man by Jimmy Barnes and accompanied by some hilarious acting from the wigged person.

Le Couteur followed up with Piano Man by Billy Joel which featured an a Cappella section as well as great air playing on the keys by deputy senior prefect Toby Denton.

One of the most entertaining performances, Cooper demonstrated to everyone how to entertain by singing the infamous Man on the Lakers, a parody on Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror. The legend himself, LeBron James, even made a surprise appearance at the start and set the stage for a performance with many laughs.

Clunies Ross performed Baby Come Back by Player with a great solo from one of the students.

Fletcher sung You Can’t Hurry Love by Phil Collins, an absolute classic.

Johnston performed Survivor / I Will Survive by the cast of the popular show, Glee.

Whitaker performed a sound rendition of Budapest by George Ezra with a Mexican wave and call and response working very well to make this a great performance.

Tupou performed Return of the Mack by Mark Morrison, rocking sunglasses and sneaking in an amazing backflip from one of the students. This performance was filled with house spirit and excitement which created a stunning rendition of this pop classic.

Kelynack followed with Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler which was a wonderful serenade. This beautiful song throbbed the hearts of the crowd and was a simply majestic performance.

Prescott sung Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield accompanied by their famous Prescott bear.

Metcalfe performed Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi with some quality acting from two of the year 9 students. This brilliant acting was an effective way to tell the story of this 80’s classic.

Manton finished with the song Never Tear Us Apart by INXS accompanied by two hilarious green screen people. This performance also featured a young student, dressed in green and playing the saxophone, being hoisted into the air by the ‘green-screen-people’ he came crashing down with his final note. Literally!

After all the houses had finished their songs, we were able to hear the confident singing of the Boarders as they sang along to Viva La Vida by Coldplay. This was some of the best singing of the night as the boarders sang loud and proud, albeit only numbering very few.

Just when we thought it was over, Mr. Sackar surprised us with a final performance by some of our extraordinary teachers singing Built This City by Starship with the conducting of Mr. Scott. The spectacular finale finished with confetti in the air before Mr. Scott released the results of the afternoon.

In eighth place was Morrison.

Seventh place went to Manton.

In equal fifth place were Johnston and Clunies Ross.

Coming in fourth place was Tupou.

Starting the top three in third place was Kelynack.

Second place was awarded to Le Couteur.

Finally, for the second year in a row, Bavin stole the show in first place.

This house singing day saw old rock classics collide with modern pop; brilliant acting with beautiful singing; and the students with their teachers. Whatever style of performance or music you like, you can find it.

We cannot wait for the new songs and performances next year and for someone to knock Bavin off their thrown so a new winner can be crowned.
