After months of arduous work from a wide array of actors, singers, dancers, musicians, and crew, the 2025 Catch Me If You Can Musical commenced on the 12th of March. The musical was an immediate hit, selling out in just two days. All 47 students across cast, band, and crew put their talent and dedication onto the stage for four nights of amazing performance that wowed the audience and demonstrated the power of Newington drama along with MLC, St Vincent’s, Pymble Ladies College, SCEGGS and Burwood Girls High School.

The performance had it all: from solos, to orchestrated dance recitals, to comedic dialogue that got laughs from the whole crowd. It was truly a show that left a lasting impression on the audience.

The musical is based on the 2002 movie of the same name, which (in itself) was an adaptation of the 1980 semi-autobiographical book of the same name. The musical describes the true story of the con-artist Frank Abagnale Jr’s life. As a young man in the 1960’s, Frank counterfeits $2.5 million in fake checks while he impersonates a pilot, doctor, teacher, Lutheran and attorney. Meanwhile, FBI agent Carl Hanratty is determined to track down Frank Abagnale.

Frank Abagnale Jr was played by Jacob Love, the star of the show with his unquestionable dramatic flair and musical talent. Emma Siegloff played Paula Abagnale and was fantastic with her French accent. Savvas Sousamidis provided some dark humour to the play which allowed audiences a relief from the high tension of the play. Every actor played their role brilliantly to create an outstanding and simply phenomenal musical that will leave a lasting impression on all who watched it.
