Our Inner City Prep School
Wyvern House is one of Australia’s best designed and well-equipped primary schools for boys. Located in the Inner City suburb of Stanmore, we are easily accessible by public transport and have the added advantage of being only a ten minute walk away from the Stanmore 7-12 Campus.
Building Learning Power
The ‘Building Learning Power’ Framework is the main Learning and Teaching model used at Wyvern House. Developed by UK cognitive scientist Professor Guy Claxton, this unique academic framework teaches boys to learn in an environment that is consistently challenging, significant and engaging.
Similar to the way we all need a regime of frequent exercise, a balanced diet and time to rest and refresh our bodies to maintain good physical and emotional health, the Building Learning Power model applies the same discipline of consistent practice, and a motivated and positive attitude to ensure that our boys grow to become ‘fitter’ learners.

Innovation and Technology
It is an exciting time to be learning at Wyvern. iPads are standard use for our prep boys with each boy being provided with a Newington-owned iPad Air 2 on commencement. Our blended-learning approach towards education is a radical one. It shows that we are unafraid to try out new systems, adapt and change the way we teach and assess, to ensure that learning remains interactive and relevant. In addition, your son will attain good technical skills required for an easy transition into high school.
Spirituality and Ethics
Chapel is held for Kindergarten to Year 2, and Year 3 to Year 6 on Tuesdays. Chapel is conducted by our College Chaplain Richard Lá Brooy. In addition, all boys also attend religious education lessons each week.
