Vocational Education and Training (VET)<\/span> <\/span>and TVET <\/span>(delivered through TAFE) <\/span>courses are practical<\/span> subjects that can be studied alongside traditional subjects. <\/span>All VET <\/span>and TVET <\/span>courses count towards the HSC and can lead to a nationally recognised qualification from TAFE NSW or NESA. Some VET <\/span>and TVET <\/span>courses developed by NESA also contribute toward <\/span>an<\/span> ATAR.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n VET courses<\/span> are:<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n ATAR pathway<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Preliminary Course (Year 11)<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n To progress to Year 12, students must successfully complete a<\/span> minimum 12 units of study, from subjects including: <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n HSC Course (Year 12)<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n To qualify for the HSC with an ATAR via the VET pathway, students must c<\/span>omplete a minimum of 10 units, from subjects including:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Non-<\/span><\/b>ATAR pathway<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Preliminary Course (Year 11)<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n To progress to Year 12, students must successfully complete a minimum 12 units of study including:<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n HSC Course (Year 12)<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n To qualify for the HSC, students must successfully complete a<\/span> minimum 10 units of study <\/span>including<\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n All VET courses require students to complete 70 hours of work placement. Of this, 35 hours will be completed in school time and 35 hours will be completed during school holiday time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Newington College has a structured workplace learning program to help students meet their workplace requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Subjects offered for 2027<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Need to know:<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Students should discuss their preferred subjects and the workload of each subject with Heads of Department and Head of House to ensure they have the ability and capacity to fulfil course requirements.\u202f<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Most students get\u202fthe subjects\u202fthey want in their initial free choice subject\u202fselection\u202fbut some do not. This is especially the case when\u202fa\u202fsubject\u202fhas only a\u202fsmall numbers of students\u202fand\u202fappears in\u202fonly on in one group in the timetable.
