Through developing linguistic and cultural understanding of French-speaking communities, they are equipped with transferrable knowledge and skills that can benefit them in their future careers and daily lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><!-- section: section_text --><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Aims<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enable students to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>develop the language proficiency required to communicate effectively in French at level A2 (CEFR), with elements of level B1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>offer insights into the culture and society of countries and communities where French is spoken<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>develop awareness of the nature of language and language learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>encourage positive attitudes towards speakers of other languages and a sympathetic approach to other cultures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>provide enjoyment and intellectual stimulation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>develop transferable skills (e.g. memorising, drawing of inferences) to complement other areas of the curriculum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>form a sound base of the skills, language and attitudes required for progression to work or further study, either in French or another subject area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><!-- section: section_text --><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Content Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This subject content is organized into five broad topic areas (see below). These provide contexts for acquisition of vocabulary and the student of grammar and structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Everyday activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal and social life<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The world around us<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The world of work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The international world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><!-- section: section_text --><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assessment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paper 1: Listening<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paper 2: Reading<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paper 3: Speaking<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paper 4: Writing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Across the two years, students will complete formative assessment designed to prepare them for the formal assessment tasks listed above. Paper 3: Speaking is conducted internally by the teacher and externally moderated.
