Through developing linguistic and cultural understanding of Chinese-speaking communities, they are equipped with transferrable knowledge and skills that can benefit them in their future careers and daily lives. This subject is designed for learners who already have a working knowledge of the language and who want to consolidate their understanding to progress their education or future career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><!-- section: section_text --><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Aims<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enable students to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>develop the ability to use Chinese effectively for the purpose of practical communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>form a sound foundation for the skills required for further study or employment using Chinese as the medium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>develop an awareness of the nature of language and language-learning skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>promote learners\u2019 personal development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><!-- section: section_text --><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Content Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This subject content is organized into four broad topic areas (see below). These provide contexts for acquisition of vocabulary and the student of grammar and structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Young people and education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Society<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The world<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cultural Diversity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><!-- section: section_text --><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assessment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paper 1: Reading and Writing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paper 2: Listening<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paper 3: Speaking<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Across the two years, students will complete formative assessment designed to prepare them for the formal assessment tasks listed above. Paper 3: Speaking is conducted internally by the teacher and externally moderated.
