{"id":3220,"date":"2026-04-12T16:36:06","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T06:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newington.nsw.edu.au\/academic-guides\/academic-guide-years-9-10\/music\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T15:53:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T05:53:15","slug":"music","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.newington.nsw.edu.au\/academic-guides\/academic-guide-years-9-10\/elective-courses\/music\/","title":{"rendered":"Music"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"page-intro wp-block-paragraph\">A NESA Elective<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><!-- section: section_text --><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Description<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study of music in its many forms helps to foster in students an awareness and appreciation of all cultures and their wealth of traditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All students who have completed the mandatory Years 7 and 8 Music course are eligible to study the elective Music course.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the elective Music course, students will study the&nbsp;elements&nbsp;of music through learning experiences in Performing, Composing and Listening within the context of a range of styles,&nbsp;periods&nbsp;and genres.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the elective Music course, students will meaningfully engage with repertoire from:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Musical\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Music\u202ffor small ensembles\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>World Music\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Popular Music of the 1960s and 1970s\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jazz\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, in Year 10, students will undertake a composition depth study&nbsp;linked to a study if Australian Music.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The elective Music course allows for exploration of areas of interest specific to each student, as well as providing an exposure to music that may yet be unfamiliar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use of technology as a tool for creation is\u00a0an important component\u00a0of study.
