Business is a dynamic and contemporary subject that provides the knowledge and skills that form the foundation on which people make sound decisions on consumer, financial, business, legal and employment issues. Taught by the Economics Department it encourages students to explore how they fit into the broad commercial and legal environment and understand their rights and responsibilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Year 8 Business course is a standalone course. It is not a prerequisite for choosing Commerce as an elective in Years 9 and 10. The topics covered will be different from those studied in the Year 9 and 10 courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Business course at Newington has been developed to reflect the interests and needs of all students and is continuously revised to respond to changes in the commercial environment. Emphasis is given to areas and issues of current importance and interest in Australian society and case studies will vary from year to year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brains for Business \u2013 a concept-based introduction to business, exploring sustainability, ethics, creativity and change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mind Your Own Business \u2013 students plan and run their own food stall at lunchtime while learning about the four key business functions: marketing, finance, operations and human resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Law School \u2013 an overview of the Australian legal system, including the opportunity to participate in a mock trial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flying School \u2013 an introduction to tourism in Australia and globally, examining its social and economic benefits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sport and Business \u2013 an exploration of the relationship between sport, commerce, sponsorship, marketing and major events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The course promotes the development of analytical and problem-solving skills and takes a structured approach to helping students improve their written communication skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
