The VET Entertainment course prepares students for work in a broad range of technical, production and customer service roles in the entertainment industry.
Course description
The course covers a variety of live performance and production contexts, including festivals, music concerts, theatre, opera, musicals, dance and corporate events. Students investigate different production roles such as stage management, production management, front of house operations and event management. They also explore a range of technical roles in the industry including lighting, sound, staging and vision systems operation.
Learning experiences are hands-on and practical. Students work their way through a series of competency-based tasks where they apply their skills across the different phases of production. To complete the course, students must complete a minimum of 70 hours of practical work placement. Part of this work involves the planning, bump-in, operation and bump-out of a range of live entertainment events at Newington College.
Mandatory focus areas
There are seven mandatory focus areas of study in the Entertainment course:

AQF VET qualification
Over two years students work their way through the 240-hour course and an additional 60-hour Specialisation Study course. Upon successful completion, students can gain the industry recognised CUA30420 Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services qualification (or a Statement of Attainment towards this qualification).
HSC examination
Students can elect to complete the Entertainment Industry HSC examination, which provides the opportunity for the HSC examination mark to contribute to their ATAR.
The Entertainment Industry HSC examination contributes 2 units towards the calculation of a student’s ATAR.
