The Modern History course concentrates on the study of important events and people over the last two hundred years. It involves the mastery of skills such as research, analysis and writing. 

Modern History allows a student to develop an understanding of the major political, economic and social forces that are shaping our society and is vital in assisting the student to make informed judgements about events occurring in the present day. 

The communication and critical thinking skills acquired studying senior history are highly valued in the workforce, particularly in fields such as law, government and journalism. As such, significant time is allocated in the course to teaching boys skills that they ultimately apply to their other senior subjects. Note: Modern History is a 2 Unit course but there is provision to study aspects of Modern History at the Extension (3 Unit) level for the HSC. History is one of the few subjects that are able to offer an extension  course.

Assessment – HSC course only

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT	INTERNAL ASSESSMENT
One three-hour examination. It consists of: 25 mark source analysis section on the rise and rule of the Nazis 25 mark essay on conflict in Europe 1935-1945 25 mark longer response section on Apartheid South Africa	Internal assessment is based on a range of tasks including research essays, analysis of source material and oral presentations.
