Note: Ancient History is a 2 Unit course, but there is provision to study aspects of Ancient History at the Extension (3 Unit) level for the HSC. History is one of the few subjects offers and extension course.

Ancient History is a valuable study for the understanding of modern society. The opportunity to study the Ancient World allows students to examine the development of ideas, beliefs and values that have greatly influenced modern society.

The study of diverse ancient societies allows an appreciation of the development of human culture and society over time and fosters the important skills of analysis and judgement. The researching of these societies and the importance placed on developing written skills is a most important aspect of Ancient History. The research and written skills acquired studying senior history are of extreme value at university, particularly in the field of humanities (eg. Arts and Law). The Preliminary course is a prerequisite for the HSC course.

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT	INTERNAL ASSESSMENT
A three-hour written examination	Internal assessment is based on a range of tasks including research essays, analysis of ancient sources and essays.
