A NESA Elective

Course Description

The study of Food Technology develops students’ knowledge and understanding of food properties, preparation, processing, nutrition and consumption patterns through practical and inquiry-based learning. Students explore how food technologies shape health, lifestyle and wellbeing, while applying critical and creative thinking to design, produce and evaluate quality food solutions. 

The course emphasises safe and hygienic practices, informed food choices and the relationship between food, technology, culture, sustainability and quality of life. Students learn to investigate issues, consider evidence, test ideas and reflect on outcomes as they respond to real food-related needs and contexts.

Course Emphasis

The major emphasis of Food Technology is on exploring food-related issues through a range of practical experiences that occupy most of the course. Students develop confidence in selecting ingredients, methods and equipment safely and competently, while also learning to reason carefully, evaluate alternatives, justify decisions and refine food solutions through reflection and feedback.
